Har en oppgave som handler om ei røntgenmaskin. "Tennessee state regulations (153) require that the distance Q from the focal spot on the anode of an X-ray tube to the patients skin be at least 18 cm." Så blir det gjort noen beregninger, og man kommer fram til at "The anode-to-patient distance is estimated to be 19,8 cm".
Så er oppgaven: "The difference between 19,8 cm (the calculated distance) and 18 cm (the state regulation minimum distance) is slightly more than twoo standard deviations. What does that imply about the probability that this particular X-ray machine is operating safely?" (Standardavviket er forresten på 0,88 cm)
